MuyBonitaBoxers.com was previously owned by a Southeast Ohio dog breeder.  The domain expired in March of 2010 and is under new ownership.  This domain name is no longer associated with Muy Bonita Boxers which continues to operate under a different name in Marietta, OH.

Please consider the following when purchasing a puppy.

When you are researching a breeder, ask for the name and phone number of their veterinarian...and call their office.  The veterinarian should have a good overview of the entire program.  If you hear "We can't give recommendations", it is veterinarian code for "Its not so good, but we don't want to jeopardize what little treatment these dogs receive".  If you hear "We have no information on those dogs", the veterinarian isn't actively treating the dogs and puppies.

Take the time to contact the breeder's local Humane Society, speak with the Humane Officer, and ask about complaints.  Of course, you are looking for information of a more serious nature than, "There was a noise complaint", and you are looking for repeat violations.  Humane Society of the Ohio Valley   (740) 373-5959

Will the breeder allow you to see the entire program, including where the dogs and puppies are housed?  Can you meet the sire and dam?  Do you see shiny coats and bright eyes?  Are the dogs well-muscled and active?  Some breeders actually keep their dogs in a dark basement with little interaction and feed them little food of low quality.

Do you notice the breeder changing identities?  Are the name, address, phone number, website, or email changing frequently?  Stable businesses have a definite interest in maintaining a consistent public presence.  If the breeder you are considering doesn't fit this profile, question the reason!

Is the breeder following trends rather than the Boxer standard?  Examples of trends are an emphasis on the "rare white Boxer", "black Boxers", or "Euro/German heritage".  Be wary of buzzwords that don't stand up to examination.

1.  Good breeding practices nearly eliminate the genetic chance of white Boxer puppies.  Question a breeder that chooses to mate a flashy male with a flashy female.
2.  True black is not in the purebred Boxer palette of colors.  Very dark and nearly black with some brindle are acceptable.
3.  The Boxer originates in Germany and had a notable presence in America by the 1930's.  All of our purebred Boxers can be traced to Europe.  American Boxer Club - Boxer History

The American Boxer Club is the parent club maintaining the Boxer standard that the American Kennel Club (AKC) follows in conformation shows.  The following links reference the Boxer standard in both the USA and in Europe.  You will notice that they are nearly identical.  There is also a link to an illustrated description of the standard.
